Gwagwalada Area Council is one of the six Area Councils within the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. Established in 1984, its primary objective is to foster the development of rural areas within its jurisdiction, focusing on both human and capital development.
We are thrilled to welcome you to the vibrant and diverse community of Gwagwalada Area Council, where the rich tapestry of cultures and traditions come together in harmony. Our council is proudly home to the indigenous tribes of the Gbaris, Koro, Gade, Bassa, and Gbagyis, whose heritage and customs form the heart of our shared identity.
Under the leadership of Hon. Abubakar Jibrin-Giri, Gwagwalada Area Council has significantly benefited from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the stewardship of Minister Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, particularly in the area of infrastructural development, with a strong focus on road construction.
Recently, the newly completed 9-kilometer Paiko-Ibwa community road was commissioned and officially handed over to the Area Council. Additionally, another major township road rehabilitation project is currently underway in Gwagwalada, with completion and commissioning scheduled for May this year.

Our Projects

Curtailing Insecurity Challenges
Gwagwalada Area Council is not immune to security challenges which has bedeviled our society for sometime now. In order to reduce the menace and give the people the assurance that government at this level is not sleeping over insecurity issues, Hon Abubakar Jibrin-Giri decided to embark on massive lightening of our communities, villages and township by the installation of Solar energy powered STREET LIGHTS. Today, virtually every nooks and crannies of the entire Area Council are lighted at night. This is to ensure that criminal activities are curtailed at this hours. In fact, there is no part of the Ten political wards of the Council that is left out of this revolution.

Rural Road Rehabilitation
Since his assumption of office in June 2022, Hon. Abubakar Jibrin-Giri has dedicated efforts to ensure that rural roads rehabilitation remains a topmost priority.
The rehabilitation of Anagada township road in Tunga Maje Ward, the reconstruction of Giri and gwako township roads both in Gwako Ward, the continuation of Dagiri Venus road and the Student Villa roads in Central Ward, the rehabilitation of Compensation lay-out road in Kutunku Ward etc. and other rural road projects which are still ongoing testify to the administration's genuine desire to ensure that democracy dividends cut across all aspect of life of the people of the Council.

Renovation of Council Office Buildings & Gwagwalada Township Clinic
This is one area in which the present administration of Hon Abubakar Jibrin-Giri has shown genuine interest at ensuring that Staff of the Council work under conducive atmosphere as rehabilitation and renovation of office buildings within the Council is on going. The recent landscaping of Gwagwalada township Clinic and Anagada primary health care Centre are a testimony to this fact. Other Health Centres across the Ten political wards of the Council are been given adequate and similar attention for the benefits of our rural people.
